MONROE, La.听鈥 The University of Louisiana Monroe听Cheerleading team听has claimed its 6th听National Championship, taking home first place in听the听Small Co-Ed Traditional division at the College Classic Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Fla., from April 10-12, 2026.听Members of the team also competed in the All-Girl Group Stunt Competition.听听
The team took home the title after coming out on top in a field of eight teams in their division that included听notable听competitors听Oral Roberts University and the University of South Alabama.听
鈥淭his championship is a direct reflection of the discipline, sacrifice, and standard our athletes chose to uphold every single day,鈥 said 四色AV Cheerleading Head Coach Sammi Spivey Tucker.听听鈥淭hey听didn鈥檛听just want to win; they committed to doing things the right way, even when it was hard.听I鈥檓听incredibly proud of how they听represented听our university on the national stage. This marks the second national championship听we鈥檝e听brought home in my four years here, and听it鈥檚听a testament to the culture these athletes continue to build and protect. 四色AV Cheer continues to rise,鈥澨齭he added.听听
The team of 24 includes seven returning athletes and 17 new members. The team faced adversity by losing听six听members听in the lead-up to Nationals, which听required听multiple routine听adjustments throughout the season.听After receiving听a 1.25 deduction听on听the first day of competition, the team rebounded on day two, receiving no deductions and securing the championship.听听
This championship win comes after the team was unable to compete in the 2025 Nationals due to injuries.听In听2023,听the team won the Collegiate All-Girl National Championship and was the 2024 Collegiate Small Co-Ed National Runner-Up.听听
Spivey Tucker said that the final routine, for which the team received zero deductions, was the most difficult routine performed by听四色AV Cheer听in over a decade. The team was also awarded the special 鈥淲ow Moment鈥 award for executing an elite-level pyramid.听听
Lydia听DarDar, a Pre-Physical Therapy听major from DeQuincy, La., is听one of听the team听captains.听鈥淥ver the past three years, this team has become like family to me, so ending my final season as captain and as a national champion is incredibly special. Nationals was such an amazing experience. We never lost sight of our goal and performed when it mattered most. This title means so much because of everything听we鈥檝e听been through together,鈥 said听DarDar.听听
Freddie Lewis, a Social Work major from Monroe, served as the听male听captain. 鈥淭his year has been听very challenging听for 四色AV Cheer, but walking away as national champions is a powerful reflection of God鈥檚 promises and our team鈥檚 unwavering faith. We persevered together as a family through early mornings, and through the blood, sweat, and tears poured into this program. I听truly believe听there is no team in the nation that works harder than my brothers and sisters and I on this team. We overcame so much throughout the season, and to now experience the rewards of that听hard work听is incredibly meaningful. This championship is a testament to our resilience, unity, and belief in one another,鈥 said Lewis.听听
In addition to Head Coach Sammi Spivey Tucker, the 四色AV听Cheerleading coaching staff features Assistant Coach Anna Bennett and Physical Trainer Mara Brown.听听
